Ralf Bohnenkamp

The painting of Bohnenkamp enriches the scientifical-cool cosmos of minimal painting with a sensual and emotional element. Though the pictures in their simple stylistic idiom and their reduced color spectrum speak of the physical principles, which are the basis of our material world, they transform themselves by color layering and bodyful materiality, by visible strikes of the putty: The former clearness disappears, straight lines become irregular, the safe becomes precarious - this is, where the meditation begins. The pictures reveal a quiet color poetry, which only rationally can not be solved by the viewer. As more “Andachtsbilder” in the best sense of meaning they stand in a tradition which was brought on the way by the protagonists of the classical modern. Bohnenkamp adds his own interpretation to this tradition: With own color contrasts and with a precise sense for the composition.
