Reiner Packeiser

My works move on the border between painting and drawing and are characterized by a minimalist aesthetic. Using graphite and charcoal powder and sometimes watercolor on handmade paper, I explore the tension between precise line and flowing surface. This results in works that unfold a quiet, poetic presence.

In my black and white works, the focus is on reduction and materiality. They are an invitation to the viewer to pause and discover their own associations in the subtle transitions between light and shadow.

I am not looking for the obvious, but for the moments in which fragility and strength, chaos and order meet. Each work is an expression of a process that combines reflection, movement and emotion.

1998 to 2019: Head of the exhibition department at the Vitra Design Museum Weil am Rhein and founding director Ernst Leitz Museum Wetzlar (Leica Camera AG). During this time I have organized numerous international exhibitions in cooperation with museums such as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Singapore Art Museum, Museo Reina Sofia Madrid and many others.
