I am a self taught artist/designer with a 35 year career as a design build cabinetmaker. I have no political or social need to express myself in my art, rather, I believe my role is to make the world more beautiful. I respect any and all artists that feel a need to communicate through their works. However, just the act of saying "the purpose of art is to illuminate" has now broadened that definition to politics and social mores.
My work has always been about beautifying human's environment. I was lucky in that early in my career my first real job working with wood was at the foot of one of the world's great designers, Robert Huyler. Later, and for some time, I also worked with and for a series of the more well known New York architects and designers, none with more talent than Bob Huyler.
Today, I make art using the medium with which I am the most familiar, wood. Although I have been known to dabble in humorous and representational works, my real love is allowing the wood's appearance (its grain or figure) to take me into new form.
