My paintings consider how space becomes place, exploring through the contradiction of the static caravan how the permanent can appear temporary and the fragile can seem solid. Despite its utopian pastoral subject matter the work is distinctly kept within an urban frame. Ephemeral clouds and modest caravan idylls are wrought from the materials found on city construction sites or urban skips rather than rural backwaters. Though these images of fleeting impressions of clouds and provisional mobile dwellings executed on bits of plaster board, itself a flimsy interim material, can also read as mappings of that pioneering of the caravaneer, the spirit of getting away from it all by retaining elements of what you escaped from.

My use of fire-proof plaster boards, insulation aluminum foils, concrete and plaster mixes, masonry nails and wood vaulting envelop and help to frame my imagery both physically and conceptually. I hope to achieve a balance in these paintings/constructions where both image and material revel in their own tautologies.
