Romy Maxime is a South African photographer and sculptor working between Cape Town and Zurich.

Her practice moves between image and form : from cinematic black and white portraiture to bronze sculpture - exploring themes of vulnerability, beauty, the female gaze, and the quiet emotional landscapes between people.

Known for her intimate portraits, Romy’s work captures fleeting moments of presence and feeling. Her expansion into sculpture emerged from a desire to hold those moments in space .. to give weight to what is often invisible.

Her sculptural practice is shaped by two core collections:

The Shape of Freedom, a series of solitary female figures exploring transformation, emergence, and inner sovereignty;

and The Art of Belonging, a more personal body of work rooted in a lifelong sense of being an outsider .. exploring connection, sisterhood, and the subtle language of touch, stillness, and shared presence.

Cast in bronze with a classical patina, her sculptures echo the restraint and emotional depth of her photographic work.

Influenced by poetry, travel, and lived experience, Romy’s work sits at the intersection of strength and softness .. an ongoing study of what it means to be seen, to belong, and to become.
