Samir Shah

I developed my artistic interests from an early age, mostly through informal training. Despite my artistic interests, I attended Berkeley to study engineering. On the surface it appears to be in contrast to the creative arts, but I believe the two are linked. Artists create the objects of peoples' desires; engineers create what people need. Both are important to society and to me.

I have experimented with many painting techniques. Oil is my preference. Oil paint patiently awaits the patient, guided hand. It dries slow allowing for a great range of blended color, texture, and layering. My favorite subjects include abstracts and landscapes. Above all, I seek original creative expression. My works are created from the vacuity of the mind with nothing save my imagination. I respect the style and techniques of all artists and art movements, but do not seek to duplicate them. By adhering to these principals, my creative faculties remain unfettered.
