Sarah Jones (b. 1994) is a UK-based, self-taught visual artist. Working primarily with gouache & acrylic paints, Sarah's work aims to explore representations and perceptions of the human body. This could mean literally, with the inclusion of abstract human forms in her paintings, or more inventively with the use of her body as a way of physically applying paint to canvas.
Sarah's paintings contain abstract elements and are for the most part, non-representational. She's influenced by the large-scale gestural painters of the Abstract Expressionist period, particularly Helen Frankenthaler and Willem de Kooning, as well as the pure automatism of Joan Miro. Sarah usually paints intuitively, believing that allowing a painting to develop in this way gives it a sense of dynamism and vibrancy.
Sarah places a very high value on travel to inspire new work, so takes part in as many Artist Residencies as possible. In the near future she hopes to take part in several national and international exhibitions and was recently named a finalist in the Open Contemporary Young Artist Award 2018 (hosted by The Biscuit Factory, Newcastle).
