Sergey Loginov was born in 1962. He graduated from Shtiglits St. Petersburg Academy of Art and Design in 1992. The artist lives and works in St. Petersburg. His works can be found in galleries and private collections.
The artist uses an unusual technique, scratching images on plastic and finishing them off with oil. The mirror-like surface of modern plastic shows deep chisel marks with rubbed-in paint.
The artist uses white oil paint to convey the moonlight shining on the faces of the mysterious characters, creating the impression that time stands still.
It is easy to notice here that modern materials have started to gain a foothold in fine arts. Throughout the history of painting there has been a strong trend towards conservatism, with painters traditionally creating their works on canvas, paper or cardboard for hundreds of years. While new styles and trends appeared, paint continued to be dabbed on paper or canvas. Even though the character of brushstrokes changed as classicism gave way to impressionism and primitivism, the brushstrokes themselves were still laid on paper.
