Shuai Xu

Shuai Xu’s practice is structured through an ongoing system in which each work is indexed by an astronomical coordinate. These coordinates act as points within a broader field, organizing how a work takes shape across different materials and spatial conditions. A single work can extend through painting, object, installation, or site-based intervention. Each form marks a different stage in the same work’s development.
He remains attuned to the overlooked structures of the world, the latent fissures that exist outside the reach of language or visual convention. This attentiveness often brings a sense of excitement, yet not one that necessarily seeks expression. It is a state of internal tension, where certain findings are left untouched—allowed to remain in concealment—while others are carefully translated into images that enter visibility only in a hesitant, partial, and deliberately unresolved form.
Xu’s work departs from traditional narrative structures, constructing instead a perceptual field that oscillates between appearance and withdrawal.
