Hello.
I was born in Caracas, Venezuela., and left relatively early to boarding school in Madrid, Spain. Later, i went to NYC with the idea of getting into Parsons School of Design, but after a few months of too much party my parents decided that NYC was not the best option, and i was sent to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to study Architecture. After 5 years in Rio, i went back to Caracas and worked for a year in my uncle's Architecture firm, and left again, this time to San Francisco, US, to work on a Master's degree at UC Berkeley, and ended staying in San Francisco where i worked at a very prestigious Architecture firm for 9 years as a Project Architect.
Perhaps the fact that my job took more hours than i was willing to give, despite my love for Architecture, which became a source of increasing stress, motivated me to start exploring painting as a way for releasing that stress. My father was an accomplished amateur painter...he would make this beautiful portraits of his prized horses and bulls, at our ranch, so since very young i had paint at my disposal to play, and both my parents took me to long visits to many museums around the world, and i participated actively in choosing the paintings they acquired for our homes, abstracts bein...
I studied Architecture...my painting is self-tough 100%.
I have had 4 shows, all in San Francisco, 3 with the Limn Gallery and one with Architects&Heroes, all of them solo shows. I also participated in 3 other group shows in San Francisco and L.A.
Perhaps because i have been very lucky, with people, my friends first, friends of my friends later, acquiring my paintings, and therefore making the chance of me having more than 3 pieces available for shows rather rare, and the fact that i found the "gallery world" to be a bit merciless towards the artist, with up to 60% commissions, not to mention that produce 10 large paintings that needed transportation, insurance, etc requires a huge tiresom effort from my side, made me almost adversarial to the idea of having a show. On top of that, the fact that i am an Architect, and a rather picky one, the possible galleries' looks was very important for me,so there is no way i would show in a place that i don't found attractive.
But recently i started playing with smaller formats...i only worked on large ones before, and it makes everything much easier, so i will definitely consider having future shows...i already had two propositions but i want to build a stock of at least 20-25 paintings before i make any decision in that respect, and this time i ...
