Artist Statement / Biography
Harrie Sijbers is a painter whose work is rooted in expressive abstraction, balancing between figuration and abstraction. His paintings are characterized by a strong sense of movement, layered brushwork, and an intuitive use of color. Landscapes, urban environments, and human presence often serve as points of departure, not to be depicted literally, but to be transformed into emotional and painterly impressions.
Working primarily in oil on canvas, Sijbers builds his compositions through dynamic gestures and textured surfaces. Color plays a central role in his practice, functioning as both structure and expression. Warm and vibrant palettes are frequently contrasted with cooler tones, creating rhythm, depth, and spatial tension.
Educated at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Sijbers developed a painterly language that emphasizes process, materiality, and personal expression. His work invites the viewer to engage intuitively, allowing space for individual interpretation while conveying a sense of energy, optimism, and lived experience.
the artist studied at the Design Academy in Eindhoven and graduated with honour.
