Simona's paintings are vibrant and mysterious: everything in her images is visible yet nothing is fully manifest. Feminine and masculine, fear and peacefulness coexist, fiercely and wittily, in ambiguous figures with feminine rhythms, while classical influence merges in the new impetus of contemporary painting. Everything about her art lies in the duality of the elements, in a new restless and powerful research.
Mainly self taught, Simona Bormida attended painting workshops at the National Museum and Academy of Fine Arts, New York, as well as at the Art Students League of New York, the art school organized in 1875 by members of the National academy of design driven by the same requirements of independence that led to the founding of the Society of American artists (1877). The school, attended by important avant-garde personalities, is one of the liveliest centers for the art of the 20th century. Simona also attended courses in painting and colour theory at Parsons New School for Design, New York and courses at Rome University of Fine Arts.
