Czech artist Sofie Svejdova (born 1990 in Pilsen, lives in Prague) is a fresh graduate of the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague and her works include distinct traces of the influence of her teachers. On one hand, there is a figurative decorative aspect; on the other hand, there is a narrative line reminiscent of the material experiments of Jiří Černický. What makes her paintings original, however, is the transformation of these approaches by the thought, emotions and authentic eroticism of a young woman. The latter is most distinctly marked by the embedding of the image of “Vs”, for instance. The motive of a detective series, found in her other paintings, can be applied to all of her existing works; the individual images can be perceived as episodes with similar protagonists.
