Jason Steel

In 2013, Steel moved to Beirut, Lebanon, in order to write & launch a leading fashion degree at the Lebanese American University in collaboration with ELIE SAAB & UAL: University of the Arts, London. This program has allowed young designers to explore the myriad complexities of what it means to be young & Lebanese, including: sex, sexuality, gender, identity, political issues, the rubbish crisis and the roles of young people in the Middle East.

Having worked in a number of dynamic countries, Steel is now examining his own practice through multi-layered approaches to questions about society, the decay of beauty, childhood memories & the (false) romance of a bygone era.

In 2000 Steel was invited to show his work at the Royal College of Art, London, where he was subsequently offered a place on the Menswear Masters and awarded the Diana, Princess of Wales Bursary, in order to attend. On graduating he opened the show, was awarded the Thames & Hudson prize for ‘excellence & craftsmanship,’ before immediately beginning an international teaching career due to his groundbreaking methodologies in creative practice.
