Stella Karageorgi

The inspiration of this body of work is derived from the pottery images and clay idols of the ancient archaic art in my home country, Cyprus. The art in Cyprus of the Archaic Period (700-500BC) is distinguished by the unique originality of style and animated character.In this body of work I am exploring the ancient images and sculptures by placing them in a modern context based on my artistic interpretation and sensibility. I am intrigued by the idea of something ancient transforming to something more contemporary and being able to encapsulate both.
