Stephanie Ong is motivated by the beauty and deterioration of life; exploring the abstract balance between development and completion. Ong manipulates light, color, form and process with paint and drawing materials to express how powerful and raw communication is at its core. Influenced heavily by nature and our relationship to it, Ong expresses her perspective through layers of paint.
In her first career as a Speech Pathologist, Ong channeled her creativity to find alternative communication methods for children, most of who had autism and could not express themselves through conventional means. In 2013, Ong returned to her first love of art and began redirecting her creativity back into painting. Ong describes her style as “using color and form to visually communicate.”
Her latest body of work, Translation, explores the various layers of conversation; what’s left unsaid.
Ong was a finalist in Artpop Tampa People's Choice Awards 2016, was awarded 1st place in OpusTampa 2017, and has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Florida and in New York City.
