Artist Strahil Petrovski represents his search for personal identity through the labyrinths of the dynamic and confusing technological present of information chaos through a number of diverse unities with an underlined symbolical potential. In formal terms, the unities that complete this visual narration are basically envisioned as a synthesis of two contradictory extremes: abstraction and figuration. The abstract point of the paintings, points to the need to define identity in compliance with certain patterns represented in civilizational and cultural layers, which "come in layers," are "torn to pieces", "creak at the seams" or "diffuse" and are drawn in neutral "colors": black, white and gray with splashes of the material that ranges from expressively strong moves and thick layers of hue to dark lyrical, esthetic and sensory undertones.The artistic creations, which are made with a combination of different techniques, dark tones and geometric shapes (like the basis of Malevich's Black Square), depict a certain nostalgic attitude toward the primordial and sincere past and point to an arduous quest for the foundation, digging through the accumulated layers of what defines us as individuals and removing the obstacles out of the way o...

Born in Kumanovo, R. Macedonia, in 1974. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the university of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in 1997, in the class of professor Rodoljub Anastasov. In 2000 he attained a master’s degree in Art with the same professor as a mentor. From 2000 to 2002 he worked at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje as external associate-demonstrator for the course painting technology, in the class of Professor Momchilo Petrovski and the course painting techniques, in the class of Professor Velo Tashovski. From 2002 to 2010 he worked as a part-time external associate-conservator in the laboratory for conservation and restauration of icons, at the National Conservation Center in Skopje. He took part in the first scientific project entitled "BRESTAL" under the mentorship of Professor Momchilo Petrovski at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje. Since 2010 he has been working at the National Conservation Center in Skopje, where in 2011 he acquired the title of senior conservator. Since 2012 he has been working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Macedonian Literature Institute at the university of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje.
