Suzanne Farman

My name is Suzanne! I was born and raised in Iraq. I started painting at an early age. My early memories of art include visiting various art galleries in Iraq with my dad. I had the privilege of meeting some of the Pioneers of abstract painting in Iraq such as Jamil Hamoudi, Layla Al-Attar, and Sabih Naama. I remember vividly how excited I felt to receive feedback and autographs from these famous artists. Despite all the monumental challenges that came with growing up in Iraq, I was able to find joy in creating art. In the midst of all of that, I created my own definition of beauty. Creating art was my sanctuary.
In 2005 I had to leave my whole life behind along with all my paintings and start a new life in Canada. I had to put all my creative dreams on hold as I was immersing myself in a new culture. In 2012 I received my bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and I have been working in this field since. After settling down in my career and life, I decided it was time to embark on my art journey again. I went to the Alberta College of Art and Design and took Drawing and Painting Courses.
