Tara Eales

A career in fashion design, production and education and a fascination with fabric has taken me on an artistic adventure.

My studio space is based in Sydney but I spend half of my life in New York where I am inspired by the world's most contrasting metropolis. My sculptures have evolved over the last 4 years however, one thing has remained constant, they always incorporate mindfully sourced fabrics and quirky trim.

My love of textiles - the colour, the pattern, the texture and the origin - is brought to life in contemporary sculptures. The environment is essential. Each piece is made with recycled materials or designer off cuts. Each component is carefully selected - individually insignificant - but collectively contributing to a new meaning, a new life.

My inspiration is eclectic: Jeff Koons for his exuberance and the celebration of youth; Takashi Murakami for his not so subtle love affair with pattern and colour; Sarah Lucas for her irreverence; Akira Isogawa for his fascination with fabric; and, Romance Was Born for their addiction to colour and wild patterns.
