Born in Georgia, at eight I became an East Texas transplant and wouldn't live any place else.
At 14, I fell in love with art. After some lessons in oils, life's demands made me put my dream of being an artist on the shelf.
Retirement with a move to a lake and the discovery of gardening renewed my hopes starting with painting the yard with flowers. Cleaning out old art supplies, I found a box of watercolors that had never been opened. I decided to give them a whirl. What a mess. Serious studies on my own began and the medium captured my heart. Georgia O'Keeffe's work has always fascinated me, especially her flowers, which is one of my favorite subjects along with animals. Part of the fun with watercolor is that you never know what you are going to get.
Daniel Smith and Turner paints give me the fantastic color that I love. I glaze to get the intensity in my paintings. The lake's visiting critters and my flower garden supplies me with endless subjects. My goal is for my paintings to be filled with light and vibrant colors that will bring joy to anyone who sees them.
Some oil lessons, along with books, and some help from other artists, but mostly a determination to keep painting till I get it right have been my teachers.
I have been in several local annual shows, and received three Special Merit awards in the Light, Time & Space online contest with artists from all over the world. In January 2019 I had a show at the Norsworthy in Shreveport, LA.
A group of my paintings are on display at Heartis Assisted Living in Longview, TX.
Another group of my paintings are on display at 504 Vintage Marketplace in Longview, Texas. And David Reese's shop in Kilgore, Texas has my paintings on display.
