Artist Statement:My work deals with three subjects simultaneously: touch, texture and the present moment. Touch deals with the physical touch of artist with materials, texture is concerned with the textural qualities that are the result of this physical contact, and the present moment is explored during the painting process when the moment is revealed through the application of paint.The act of painting is, for me, very much of a physical process. During this process I apply paint in such a way as I engage in physical contact with my materials and with the surface to which they are applied. It is a very tactile procedure which utilizes unconventional materials to manipulate the surface of my work. This method helps to establish the look of my body of work as a whole, yet it is open-ended and flexible enough to allow each single work of art to develop individually and in its own direction. This system of touch and the materials which I use to contact the surface allow me to control the look, feel and mood of my work. It is through this physical contact that the second aspect of my work comes into play, which are the textural qualities that result.
