Thim Kalin

Thim Kalin was born in southern California in the summer of 1969 and has lived throughout California, Colorado, and Arizona. Thim first discovered a fondness for art at an early age while visiting his Grandmother who was a teacher of art and a skilled artist in many mediums. Thim would often spend weeks at a time at his Grandmothers where she would teach him about drawing, painting and ceramics. Throughout high school and college he studied drafting, architecture, engineering and design. After graduating college, with degrees in business and engineering, he spent the next twenty years as a private engineer and consultant on projects for state governments and municipalities.

In the summer of 2008, fed up with the industry, Thim fled to the seclusion of the farthest regions of Northern Arizona. Here he slipped into a reclusive lifestyle and reconnected with nature and his childhood fascination with painting.

Thim's hermitage is somewhere near the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona. Thim's paintings are executed using egg tempera, with hand-ground pigments, on highly textural handmade panels.
