Born in Leicestershire in 1964, I presently live on the mid-Wales coast.
The work I produce is a direct expression of my desire to stop, and take time to examine and absorb all aspects of a single point of focus, at a single point in time.
My artistic aim is to communicate a sense of intimacy with the subject and to evoke an emotional response by creating tightly framed close-up compositions, which encapsulate and highlight the nuances of the natural world.
I seek to capture fleeting moments, to savour and record the elusive and ever changing elements of nature. Isolating a subject intensifies the focus, allowing the eye to rest upon, and thoroughly absorb, and enjoy, a small part of a very large world.
Perhaps the most distinct manifestation of my desire to capture such fleeting moments came with the development of my Fire collection. Alongside my fires, I have also been creating my woodland collection, a series of canvases portraying close-up studies within Welsh woodlands. These paintings are predominantly scenes from Bronpadarn Woods, on the outskirts of Aberystwyth.
The distinctive visual impact of my woodland paintings comes from the isolation of subjects in close-up, with larger than lif...
After working as a full-time art practitioner I have now begun a degree in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University. I have had a passion for creating art since childhood. Before moving to Wales, I took commissions and sold drawings in and around Bradgate Country Park, in the Charnwood Forest.
As a mature student in Cornwall, I studied Art, Design, and Illustration, where I began painting with acrylic. This medium has become the main focus of my work.
Since becoming a full-time artist, I have been in two collective exhibitions, voted public favourite in the first.
The first of my woodland collection, May Sycamore, was a finalist in an International Artist magazine competition. A ten page article about my art was published in their Aug/Sept 2009 edition.,
