I am interested in the history of a place or a thing, the layering of it, the stories behind it. I find I am drawn to what I see in the landscape and surrounding environment. In the Arctic I was inspired by the folklore. However, my focus became the glacier, (situated in the Lyngen Alps), its impact, and the marks it made on the landscape. I examined the contrast between the white landscape and the busy city; the man made with the natural white surface.
I looked at the people; their struggle to survive in this harsh environment. Abandoned buildings protrude from the landscape; these are in varying stages of decay, standing like sculptures. The mountains seem like monuments to the Past, each having a story to tell, leaving their mark in time.
My interest lies in the surfaces of paintings created by adding and removing material, many layers are used, I like the solid structures of lines and often incorporate text. However within this "Arctic Series" contrasts have emerged , including more sculptural and inventive pieces.
