Dan, Uduak-obong Tony is a figurative painter from Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, born on May 2, 1994, and raised in Ini Local Government Area. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting from the Department of Fine and Industrial Arts, University of Uyo. After his studies, he completed his national service in Ogun State, where he taught visual arts at Dupmos Group of School, Ijebu Ode. Now a full-time studio artist based in Uyo, Uduak-obong creates work that draws from the daily rhythms of life, human behavior, and the quiet beauty of ordinary moments. Over time, his artistic journey has shifted from detailed drawings to figurative and now abstract figurative work. This evolution reflects his desire to capture not just what is seen, but what is felt, balancing form and emotion, memory and presence. Using acrylic, oil, and charcoal, his paintings explore themes of mental health, identity, and emotional resilience, especially within African communities where such conversations remain deeply stigmatized. Through his work, Uduak-obong creates a space where being seen, felt, and understood becomes an act of healing.
