Umaima Amoosh

Umaima is an experienced artist from Muscat, Oman whose lush and detailed landscape paintings draw inspiration from her environment. Working spontaneously, her art evokes aesthetic ambiguity in both process and product.

Umaima started painting as a child and has spent more than two decades developing her style and technique. Following in the footsteps of her father, who would spend hours painting at home every day, Umaima learned foundational techniques at home.

Carrying on this tradition Umaima, alongside her two sisters, set up the Majan independent studio in Muscat as a creative workshop for the artists to find support and collaborate in their art.

Umaima begins each piece with no preconceived image in mind. Instead, her work is the product of a spontaneous process where the colours and brushwork guide her to establishing a subject.

Much of her work is inspired by Salalah, a tropical area of southern Oman where half her family originate from. Drawing from the Khareef (monsoon) Umaima’s work often features moving bodies of water and lush landscapes mirroring the region’s unique character.
