My technique is strictly connected with my origin. I was born in the South of Italy, in a Region called Salento in the south of Puglia, famous for an ancient papier-mache technique handed down from father to son. It was used predominantly for holy objects and statues.
It is a poor technique originating from the recycling of waste paper and flour (that was no longer fit for consumption due to spoilage), which historically evolved beyond its modest beginnings to gain prominence in Baroque contexts and become part of Cultural Heritage.
In my contemporary reinterpretation, it merges upcycling and innovation, bringing an ancient craft into new forms while connecting traditional cultural knowledge with emerging values such as sustainability, circular economy practices, and social engagement.
This is my profane version.
Mixed media artworks composed of papier-mache, acrylic paint, spray paint on canvas. Honoring the beauty of handcrafting has led me to move from traditions and edit my compositions down to enigmatic feel, simple shapes, allowing for minimal distraction and maximum effect.
