Denis van Baren is a French-Dutrch artist born in Paris on the 11th of September 1968. He first trained as an architect and specialized in the preservation and restoration the architectural heritage. He practiced this activity on the highest level in Brussels for two decades. Since 2011, he devotes himself exclusively to his painting.
van Baren draws since his early childhood, and first developed his skills in the watercolour technique. This has a considerable influence on his actual acrylic paintings, especially in the balance between light and shade. His architectural training as well as important personal research contributes to a very original representation of space and his experience to conserve the artistic heritage also confers to his work a particular philosophical dimension where time and memory play a central role. Through different series, he approaches the theme of memory.
