Verena Mayer-Tasch was born in Mainz, Germany, in 1968. After professional training as a carpenter, she graduated in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts of Carrara in 1996, the city where she chose to settle and where she has developed her artistic research. Her artistic path originates from the encounter between two profoundly different materials: wood, an organic and lived material connected to her early training, and Carrara marble, an ancient stone and a symbol of the Western sculptural tradition. From this dialogue emerges a research focused on the transformation of matter and on the relationship between what endures and what is destined to disappear. Through an essential and poetic language, Mayer-Tasch explores the memory of the moments that life allows to slip away: everyday gestures, childhood objects, absent presences, and natural forms become universal symbols capable of evoking shared human experiences. Her artistic production unfolds through several cycles of research. After graduating from classical high school (1987) she completes an apprenticeship and graduates in carpentry in 1991. Subsequen tly she moves to Italy and studies in the Accademia of fineArts in Carrara, where she graduates in Sculpture in 1996. In 2015 she foundes her own Sculpture Studio, Studio Marmore + in the centre of Carrara, where she lives and works permanently. From 1992 she participates at numerous International Stone Sculpture Symposiums in all over the world. Her works can be found in numerous public and private collections incountries such as Argentina, Austria, China, Germany, France, Italy, Israel, Luxembourg, Turkey, Syria and Uzbekistan.
