Virginia Stuart

I am an artist who has sought to develop a new medium for my three dimensional ideas. Rather than struggle with the rigidities, demands and logistics of ceramics, I felt that utilizing recycled newsprint, a material that is freely available, would be an exciting new direction for my work and an environmentally- friendly option.

As a painter I enjoy producing these pieces as three-dimensional paintings; as a sculptor I am interested in the construction of a piece; as an artist I enjoy the immediacy of the medium.

Incorporating found items that the sea has given up - weathered objects, totems, trophies - I feel the pieces become somehow charged with the history of that object, a life lived elsewhere.
