Wayne Shimabukuro is a native Californian of Japanese ancestry. These factors play a significant role in his artistic practice. After receiving his BA from the UCLA art department, his serious exploration with photography began. From black & white, full frame compositions utilizing a 35 mm camera, he expanded his practice to embrace the digital revolution of image-making. His current body of work, FLORALinventions, embraces both the camera and digital process. The images he makes attempt to engage the eye and encourage contemplation. creating an atmosphere of beauty through balance and harmony. Color plays a significant role, the palate of each piece is determined
by the floral subject which also becomes an important element in the composition’s construction. When successful, the “photograph” quiets the nervous system, frees the mind from external distractions and encourages a state of meditation.
