Rosario Marra

Rosario Marra, also called Dario, was born in Rome. He has been interested in the visual arts since he was 16: photography, painting, sculpture, and particularly ceramics, using all sorts of materials as means to express his inner visions, his questions and feelings toward life and his observation of nature. He is an unusual painter and sculptor. His style reflect an active life, due to his many travels and intensive experience with several cultures.

On canvas, he works with oil colours, tempera, acrylics, enamels, and any kind of colour and "stickable" matter.

In sculpture he uses wood, stones, marbles, ceramic and many other materials. The variety of materials that are used by Marra match the artist’s own restlessness in life, his thoughts, and embrace a single means of expression and a single style that summarizes his opinions and beliefs.

The art of Rosario Marra varies from classic two-dimensional canvas oil painting, traditional sculpture and material compositions assembled on canvas where objects in metal or wood emerge from the surface creating a three-dimensional effect with a very incisive perspective. This result is strengthened further by Marra’s use of bright and full bodied hues. Colour is the main element of his work which narrates neither a specific subject nor story but leaving solely the chromatic material to communicate with.
