Young Objects (Aretha Choi) creates sculptures and objects that explore the interconnectedness between our inner and outer worlds.
She works primarily in paper pulp, reworking and processing cardboard in small batches using techniques borrowed from Korean paper making, french puppetry, and urban wheat pasting. The use of cardboard, a byproduct of internet-driven consumerism, is rooted in experimenting with how waste can be given new life and nuanced feelings without hiding its organic origins.
She works from her studio in New York where she transforms trash into textures, faces, and shapes that invite you to see the absurdity and the surreal in everyday life.
