About Armando Rabadán
I am keen on studying the connections between elements and cyclic processes, more specifically, these paintings derive from an interest in Fractal Theory and Multiverse Theory, the relationships between human beings and nature, as well as sacred geometry and scale. These studies have led me to represent nature in my paintings as a mysterious and sacred place. I actually do not know what happens exactly in my paintings, but nonetheless, I want to share this mystery with the viewer. Instead of painting them directly in nature, they are being created while studying them, from the manipulation and the images testing I find in books, on the internet, in my telephone or anywhere else, and mixing them all together. Some of this pictures that were taken with my telephone show us a nature which has belonged to the organic life that survives in the cities, in this case Istanbul and Seville. I find it interesting to add to my paintings nature’s organic residue from cities, looking to recreate a natural environment. It is like bringing back the nature of the city to its natural context. From a technical point of view I usually use the mistakes as a creative process such as painting with the left hand, repainting over a “finished work”, starting a painting from one side and turning it over, applying another work splash on that painting etc. Such a techniques lead me to find the painting in state of purity. I concern about that kind of research as a painter. However, it is also significant to combine this process with moments of reflection about space, colour or other logical issues. Somehow, my works are silent stories that may show the surrounding spaces of a happening, even though this event does not appear in the paintings. We can only observe some of the consequences of it that go into the painting, such as flashes of light, flying leaves, or branches moving due to the wind effect. The mystery and sacredness seems to always escape from our eyes, but it imbues the objects and the places around us, which can be seen in many of these nature paintings.
