Croatian visual artist creating colourful biomorphic paintings inspired by mycelium, natural networks, microscopic ecosystems, emotions, and interconnected living systems.
Lila Herceg Nenadić is a Croatian visual artist and art educator based in Varaždin. Her artistic practice includes painting, land art, light installations, and experimental work with textiles, paper, organic materials, and space.
Her work explores the relationship between emotions, natural structures, communication systems, and interconnected living networks. Inspired by mycelium, cellular forms, microscopic ecosystems, and organic processes, she creates layered visual environments that move between abstraction, imagined landscapes, and inner psychological states.
Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, Herceg uses vivid colour, biomorphic forms, strong outlines, and intuitive composition. Her paintings develop organically, with each form responding to and influencing the surrounding structures. The resulting works invite viewers to discover their own creatures, landscapes, memories, and narratives.
Her practice reflects an ongoing interest in ecology, transformation, biodiversity, collective intelligence, and the complex relationships between human beings and the natural world. Alongside her studio practice, she works as an art educator and expressive arts therapy practitioner, developing inclusive and experiential art programmes for children, young people, educators, parents, and adults.
She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Department of Art Education and Painting, and studied glass at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava through a CEEPUS scholarship. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Croatia and internationally.
