Le beau Mirage - oil on canvas. 40 x 30 x 1in. Original painting on canvas by Fiona Maclean. For my most recent series of paintings ‘Le Beau Mirage’ I was inspired & provoked by some of Sally Mann’s images, and I stumbled across some of the controversial series of images of Brooke Shields, eg Pretty Baby. That lead me to reflecting on my own youth and how I was aware of my sexuality at a very young age and how people saw me. I guess a lot of my work is about parts of me. I’ve always found that my work leans towards youth, fashion and trying to tap into the ‘otherworldliness’ as an escape. And me wanting to hang onto my youth. Little bit like the Picture of Dorian Gray.

I am a New Zealand born Painter and Visual Artist currently based in Bondi Beach, Sydney, Australia. After studying Art, Design and Production in New Zealand & Australia I continued my studies in Fine Art and Painting at Parsons School of Art (The New School) in New York City. A family tragedy cut my studies short in New York where I had to move back to Australia.
