This particular parking structure is located on Corcoran Street in downtown Durham, NC. Most of the time it looks like the drab, concrete mass that it is. Once in a while, though, a sunset will light it up in a most appealing fashion. To me, the spiral access ramp invokes man's adaptation of the countless natural manifestations of the spiral form (e.g., the nautilus), which contrasts in an interesting way with the mysterious depths of the darkened interior of the structure. Oil on linen. Includes a black metal 'floater' frame.
