Heather Wakefield:
I am a conceptual artist. I have been making images and sewing since I was small. I forget I do it, really, it is second nature. I have a wonderful studio named 'the Satellite Art Station' that has a menagerie of fun little textures, bits and fragments scattered about. I can loose track of time out there - a day or a week. It is is a timeless magic place. I make art in a multitude of mediums. I get into building worlds, sometimes surreal, often narrative. I use whatever medium is necessary to bring the image in my mind to life. My most used mediums are: Photography, art fashions, drawing, painting and fine art photo portraiture (with a fashion edge). My work is largely figurative, and feminine 2 or 3 dimensions. It speaks to inner experience- often philasphocal, emotional, surreal or mystic, ritualistic, but not always, and often grapples with meaning, femininity and beauty. I have a sculptural and sketchy orientation to my work. I like when you can walk around it for viewing. Even in my gallery and field displays I prefer the walk around interactive approach.
I have designed outfits for performers, and for special events such as the opera audience and enjoy the theater and people who are in the arts. I have painted backdrops for stage and conceptual installments at festivals. I do creative direction and large scale art installations at art and music events.

I studied fiber arts and drawing at CCA, with Carol Beadle and Richard Graton, painting with Chester Arnold and drawing with Stanley Mouse, among others. I am and event organizer and like to bring artists together. I took tailoring, surface design, applique, sewing and flat patterning classes at when I was at Hampshire College. I have studied the human experience and like the inner journey as a metaphor. I am a peace activist.
All works are one of a kind or in the case of fine and photographic art prints limited editions. Thanks for your interest.
