Jérôme Rochette

Born in 1978, Jérôme Rochette is a self-taught Canadian painter based in Quebec City. His mixed-media practice brings together acrylic, spray paint, gesso, charcoal, and marker in dense, layered compositions that move between contemporary painting, street art, and popular visual culture.

Drawing from biology, tattoo imagery, religious iconography, Quebec history, advertising, cinema, and everyday nostalgia, Rochette constructs symbolic narratives in which animals, saints, objects, slogans, and fragments of collective memory collide. Familiar images are displaced, recombined, and made slightly unstable. Humour and tenderness coexist with grit, excess, and unease.

Rather than illustrating a fixed story, each painting creates a visual field in which meaning remains open. Colour, texture, stencils, typography, and abrupt shifts in scale guide the viewer through compositions that appear spontaneous yet are carefully constructed. Rochette’s work is raw and vibrant, romantic and irreverent—at once playful, gritty, seductive, and strangely beautiful.

His work has been presented in Canada and internationally, including a solo exhibition at Galerie LeRoyer in Montréal and the Urban Art Fair in Paris, and has been featured by Saatchi Art. ...
