My Name is Joop Zwart. I was born in 1958 in The Netherlands. During my high school years I developed an interest in the visual arts. The art of painting touched me in particularly; Turner, Peter Blake, and Clemente.During my education at the Vredeman de Vries Art Academy in Leeuwarden, where I studied Monumental Design, my interest grew further. Artist like Bazelilitz, Basquiat, and Cy Twombly inspired me then as they continue to do so today. After my academic studies I created immense works of art comprised of oil paint, acrylic, and chalk on paper.Explosive shows in which the paint splatters, Wild painting, and thick contours.Objects, sculpture groupings, everything in a giant format.Sound, light, image, photography, and material which I came across.Later I started to concentrate on figurative painting.Happenings, impressions, newspapers, media... everything you stumble across that stays with you. For one or another reason this always seems to return. Not in the form of a copy faithful to realty but rather in a sculpture or object that is colored and formed through my own interpretation of reality.Just as I see that reality at that very moment. In Het schilderen van mensen (The painting of people) anatomy does not play a significant role. I try to approach a figure in a mirroring manner, the position, the place, or the expression has to be painted to clearly present the vision in my mind.
