Vanessa Lamounier de Assis (Belo Horizonte,1969) is a Brazilian-Dutch artist, living and working in Rotterdam.
Graduated as an architect at TUDelft, MSc Interior Architecture, she works with photography, collage, painting, perspective drawings, installation, selfies, video and performance as well as textile materials for the creation of masks, bracelets and costumes. She constructs her work making use of her particular visual perception of space derived from her training as an architect.
In her work all parts of her artistic production address the process of immigration, cultural identity and the fight against being silenced, never loosing the influence of Brazilian Bossa-Nova and Tropicalism, which are actually the basis of her artistic formation. She is a Post-Tropicalist and the founder of Horizontalism movement.
