Laura Rota

My work can be described as both deep and full of lightness—like music that is at times intimate and reflective, and at other times lively and full of energy. Art has been with me since I was a child, thanks to a painter grandfather, a collector father and winter afternoons spent immersed in the files of The Masters of Color, among ancient and modern paintings. In the 1980s I discovered abstract art and its power in communicating emotions without resorting to images: since then I have loved the idea of making people perceive without explaining.

My abstract-geometric language stems from my passion for the balance between form and color. The circle is at the center of my work: pure, harmonic form, charged with positive meanings. I paint by hand, without masking, with flat, uniform backgrounds, because I believe that the hand gesture preserves authenticity even in abstraction.

Although geometric, my paintings arise from visual memories related to nature, the art that formed me and social issues that I wish to support.

The intent is to create works that bring well-being, color and harmony, accompanying thought toward calm, energy and freedom.
