Julie Brixey-Williams (born, Essex, UK), graduated BA Fine Art (2000) and MA Art & Space (2001) from Kingston University, with a PhD from the University of Reading (2022) exploring material relationality with place, using systems operating in R.D Laing’s Archway communities. She is a multi-disciplinary artist, became a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in 2012, and has been the recipient of several residencies including a Leverhulme-funded residency at the Association of Anaesthetists of GB & Ireland (London, 2004); The Observatory (Lymington, 2016); Cove Park Winter Programme (Argyll, 2018); and most recently Cill Rialaig (Ballinskelligs, Ireland, 2022).

I define myself as a contemporary sculptor, performer and edge-dweller, who believes in the power of the visibility of the small act to strengthen an enriched sense of self through our relationship with place. I inhabit my practice by constructing responses, forms and installations through the careful layering of multi-disciplinary media, using time as an essential element for listening and ‘being with’ each site.
