About Cheryll Kinsley Potter

Born in 1950 in Aldershot Hampshire
I am a much travelled British Artist, Currently living in Tavistock, Devon. Formerly Toulon, South of France after 12 years in Oughterard, County Galway, at the gateway to the most beautiful place in the world, Connemara, West of Ireland. I spent my most formative years living in Europe and the Far and Middle east. I am drawn to and inspired by trees, their manifestation in the landscape and how they change through the seasons, from Country to country.

Education

I started my formal art training, age 10 at a convent school in Belgium. For one whole day a week I was learning all about light and shade, tone and line, and how to see colours. I went to Northwich School of Art and Design at the age of 16 and did a two year foundation course. In 1968 I went to St. Martins School of Art for my Dip AD and graduated in 1971. After visiting the monasteries of Meteora in Central Greece I became interested in Iconography. I soon found myself on an Iconography Retreat where I learned egg tempera, gilding and all the techniques and history of Iconography
