The paintings are inspired by photographs of anonymous spaces and explore the relationship between the human figure and its surrounding space.
Using National Geographic photographs as a starting point, the work explore the everyday object as cultural signifier. My attempt to look at the external world via photographs mirrors the motive of my paintings, which depict human figures coming to terms with their immediate environment. This raises questions about the duality between subject and context; the dichotomies between internal and external, real and unreal and the value of repetition within the artistic process.
