COMING UP! The Runaway Fingers, group exhibition at The Pushkin House, London

September 28, 2016

Sigizmund Krzhizhanovsky (1887-1950), unsung genius of Soviet literature, was a writer of philosophical, satirical, lyrical phantasmagorias. He has been compared to Kafka, Gogol, Borges and Edgar Allen Poe yet remained unpublished until 1989. In the exhibition ‘The Runaway Fingers’, seven UK-based artists from Russia, USA and the UK, respond to Krzhizhanovsky’s remarkable short stories via interactive installation, video, photography, drawing and painting. Each artist delves into the untapped mine of Krzhizhanovsky’s weird and wonderful literature finding rich fuel for the imagination. The distilled product is a collection of artworks that veers from the poetic to the surreal via robotic fingers and mutant fashionistas.
Curated by Anya Charikov-Mickelburgh.
Opening reception 28 September 6:30 – 8:30pm

Exhibition open from 29 September to 13 November daily 2 -5 pm at 5A Bloomsbury Square, WC1A 2TA. Artists: Laura Dekker, Nick Clark, Dina Varpahovsky, Ana Oak, Ed Saye, Liz Sergeant, Anya Charikov-Mickleburgh.
