"Graham Dean's paintings use the body and structures such as buildings and boats to convey ideas, emotions, memory and psychological states. He turns on its head the conventional use of watercolour calling his work 'reverse archaeology'. Contrasting layers of paint are laid seperately onto handmade Indian paper. He has developed a unique technique where each individual sheet has undergone a process of tearing, ripping and overlapping in order to create the final composition, corresponding with the multiple layering and armouring that make up the human form.
