ABOUT
EDUCATION

1942 St Ives
Brought up in artist/fishing community.
Emmigrated as young adult and travelled with young family.
On return lived in the New Forest for 20 years.
Moved to West Dorset in '92. Live in a very old cottage with a musician and dog, surrounded by wildlife.

Watching my father carving stone and Bernard Leach throwing pots taught me to observe.
While travelling would dig up local clays and make small sculptures.
With a family to support on my return to England I took a course in ceramics and taught adults for 20 years. all the while developing my sculpture through osmosis and practice.
Winning a big commission freed me from teaching and brought the new skill of welding. Moving to the west country I was able to scale up my ideas and have, to date, worked up to 15 feet.
There are 4 pieces in public places of a more commercial nature while I continue to make and exhibit my own images.
Throughout my career I have changed my meduim to give a new look to concepts; clay, steel, stone, plaster. Some to go on to be cast in bronze. In recent years painting has been another dicipline, bringing with it context and colour.
My work is figure based. My inspiration is the many facets of human nature.
