Hiran Mitra

Born in India in 1945, Hiran Mitra, revels in the freedom of personal identity provided by abstract symbolism versusperiod specific, culture specific structures and visual narratives.

Influenced by nature, music and dance forms, Hiran's abstract paintings has contributed significantly to the visual stimulus in eastern Indian films, television, theatre and literature in the last two decades. He makes us aware that the human condition exalts in the twilight zones of reality and time, offering a precious introspective escape. Often using dense black or soft shadowy forms, he seek the positive and definitive state from which one can start exploring. Using brush strokes, layered washes and sprays, refreshing set of colours or hues of black and often masking the surface he lets the viewer nearly create his own image. His latest works explore the form of visual language that is conditioned in fact by our cultural and aesthetic identity in a global paradigm.
