It has always been important for my work to continually evolve, never settling on one approach or one "˜style'. Imagine working on one canvas for the rest of your life and forever destroying or painting over the work in order to move toward the new. This goes a little way to explaining how I work.
There are no themes in my work. I'm not interested in representing anything. I guess I'm a clichéd painter, painting for the sake of painting. The material and process's involved are my only interest. How the work ends up looking is directed by my own thoughts on what makes a painting successful.
The only constant in my work has been motifs that appear, disappear in the work. These motifs have been used as coat hangers for the paint, as starting points to deal with the start of a mountain climb that is the blank canvas/surface.
Trees, bridges, windows, doors and roads. These have always interested me.
